Fourth Youth in Governance Lecture "Corruption in Public Offices" at University Law College, Quetta on 14th July, 2009

The fourth YinG Club lecture by Transparency International – Pakistan was held at the University Law College, Quetta on 14th July, 2009 at 11:00am in the auditorium. The topic of the lecture “Corruption In Public Offices” was very fascinating and appealing to the students. The speakers for the lecture were Justice (Rtd) Fazal ur Rehman, Principal University Law College, Barrister Adnan A. Kasi, Social Worker Mr. Anwaar ul Haq Kakar and the Vice Principal University Law College Mr. Zakir H. Jadoon.

The session started with the recitation of a few verses from The Holy Quran, resulting in the first speech delivered by Mr. Zakir H.Jadoon who high lightened the kinds of corruption which are legally known to the society and gave statistics of corruption being practiced in our society.

The Program was followed by a Tea break for the students and the staff members along with the local bar eminent Judges and Bureaucrats. A thirty minute tea break was observed after which the program was followed by the Principal’s speech. The Principal in his speech said that “We owe it to ourselves. We owe it to the future “. He said that there are problems of policy that we may debate and discuss. There is a sense of nationhood that we must begin to inculcate. There is a business environment whose playing field we must always level. There is social unrest that we must quell through the provisions of fundamental services that will ensure equal opportunity. But first and foremost, there is a there is a responsibility to the next generation and to the future Pakistanis, to redeem our nation from the curse of corruption.

The Third speech was then delivered by the Chief Guest of the occasion Justice (Rtd) Fazal ur Rehman, who had a repute of being a Judge of the highest caliber in the province of Balochistan. The Chief Guest shared his experiences with the students about his professional life and shared his experiences as being a Judge. He also gave a few quotations from The Holy Quran and narrated the sayings of the Holy Prophet on corruption and miss use of public offices.

The session was followed by few questions and answers by the students. A lot of questions were raised regarding the eradication of corruption.

In the end the Principal University Law College praised efforts made by Transparency International – Pakistan in supporting and providing such informative sessions for the students and underdeveloped regions of Balochistan. Distributed shields, followed by a lunch.
